  • Birthday

It was my birthday yesterday. Let's see what did I do... Rather then go straight home in '06 and cry in my sleep while being interrupted by the phone, and different then what I did in '07: when I spent the entire time in Florida and avoided people other than the friends that were with me at Walt Disney World. This year '08, I went to work, helped a friend shop for a replacement camera battery, memory card and travel adapter. Then tried to get home as late as possible so I can avoid the phone calls. I really wish people would stop calling and bothering me. Family members can be such a drag at times. Birthdays are the most attention grubbing days ever. And I don't need the attention. I'm grateful for the show of attention, but don't need it. Mom gave me something better than a recycled sweet 16 card from years ago with an IOU note. This year, I got a recycled thank you card for the Jamaica flight tickets. It has astounded my expectations of: NOTHING. And Dad's planning to take me to Red Lobster. ... ... ... ... Yes, Red Lobster. ... ... ... O...K...

On a side note, evil MonkeyKng had me looking at some Halloween costumes. @_@ I went splurging!! I wanted these soooo cute outfits. I bought like three different costumes. I guess I'll be selling on eBay by Christmas >_>. But I got a pirate outfit, geisha and vamp outfit. ^,..,^ So I have a choice what to wear if I go out this Halloween. Yea, IF....

Anyway, I've been checking out the San Gennaro Festival/Feast. I've been there about twice now. Going again tonight, I think. Haven't really taken any photos because I know it's going on for 10 days. First day, I was going to archery and I was early. Called Ka Hong and we hung out walking down Mulberry Street, just taking in the sites. At the time, I only had my camera phone, so I really didn't take any pictures. While we were walking, the fair stretched longer than we thought. Btw, didn't know but you could get a virgin Strawberry Daiquiri just for the tube shaped plastic cups they had. :3 So from Canal Street, we ended up at Houston. We continued walking all the way to E23rd. We saw this guy with a cat on a leash. Ka Hong was admiring the rolls of bills he was counting and I was absorbed with how he had the cat not fighting the leash. And when he walked off, he had the cat jump up his sleeve and sit on his head and walked off. O_O! sooo cool! I could never teach Trixie that trick. I have a camera phone pic of that, but it's probably too poor quality to really see it.

Second day of San Gennaro Festival/Feast. It was Sunday. After work, I owed MonkeyKng a favor. Honestly, I feel bad for pulling people out of their way. So I paid for tickets to see Sukiyaki Western Django!! -__________- AWFUL!!! A tribute to bad films. But I urge you all to go see it because misery loves company. The bad english, the terrible acting, the pointless dancing, the failed rape attempt and the clueless people fighting. The movie was painful... painfully pitiful. I was literally pulling my hair out at the end. ARGH!! Then walking to the train station, we went through the festival/fair. Again, no camera. But still saw the people enjoying themselves. Go on Canal St and Centre: FIGHT! o_e We weren't involved but the way the two guys were going at it, MonkeyKng had to push me back because they were fight in our way. The two guys were fighting, one of the guy's girl jumped in. Some guy in a black shirt from down the block ran up and jumped in. LITERALLY! O_O They started to roll around on the concrete. Then rolled into Canal St traffic. The girl had the guy attacking her bf in a headlock!! The cops ran in and tried to pull them apart. Nightsticks flashed! o.o and they were finally restrained. Whew... Quentin Tarantino could learn from this fight to make a better movie. Well, I'm hoping third day at feast/fair will not be as entertaining.

  • Half Life 2 - Speed Run

Another thing I've been doing while I've been on blog hiatus, aside from being in RPG land and GH wrist torment, I've been involved in watching a few speed runs. To be specific the entire Half-Life series of speed runs. What's a speed run? It's basic a hax where the player just goes through the whole game as fast as possible. It's great for people like me that don't have the time to go through the whole game but would still like to see how the game play is. Also, it's been really informative on how bad my motion sickness can get. Imma see if I can get some pills and re-watch some of these speed runs and see if they help. Something to consider if I'm watching a movie like Cloverfield in theaters and I'm not at home comfortably able to pause and rest, then continue. (yes, I watched Cloverfield at home on DVD). Some of the speed runs I've watched: Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 - Episode 1-3, Portal and I'm waiting for the next Half-Life. Why am I only looking at Half-Life? Well, it is a fab-tab-lous game!! It's great! I won't play because I'm a poor FPS (fraps) First Person Shooter, but I am able to watch others. Another speed run i've watched was Fear. Looks like I'm just enjoying myself watching FPS games. :D

Quote from part 2: "Good job, Gordon -- throwing that switch and all. I can see your MIT education really pays for itself."

  • Twilight Saga Thoughts

ohyea, Breaking Dawn, the fourth installment of the Twilight books....Argh.. For me, the books ended at Eclipse (Book 3). But then again, Iwasn't expecting such a goth romance novel with so much "adult-like"description -- i.e., the lead character's lack of nobility to one'sparents, the fact that she wasn't much of a teen from the beginning, the idiocy of the parents always explaining her actions as "she neverreally was much of a child anyway. she was always like an adult";things I'd find in an adult romance (seduction); the bloody scenes thatI could find in a Stephen King novel -- descriptions I wouldn't atfirst consider "Young Adult." Of all the the Young Adults books thatI've read (Goosebumps, RL Stine... well, I guess I'm mostly ahorror/thriller young adult follower) but still, I went through Book 1-3 (Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse) loving the characters, alwaysthinking they acted bit older than what they were perceived to be. ButI got a bit defensive when I thought kids, who I'm hoping are about16-18 when they read this story and not younger, weren't going to thinkit's alright for them to: 1) rush into marriage at 18; 2) tell offtheir parents because they knew they were responsible enough to do whatthey think is right; 3) think it's fine to get pregnant so young; 4)not give a second thought about college and continue to live in the NOWand not think of the future. That's what really aggravated me, thecontinual thought that the protagonist wasn't thinking of the futureand the repercussions of her actions. But then again, that's probablywhat the author was pushing for, and I need to think -- that's exactlywhat the audience needs -- for the HOOK.The drive to keep reading. *sighs* How am I ever going to write my ownbook if I never understand this concept? Perhaps I just don't love mycharacters enough to hurt them or place them in danger. Then of course,I'm not focused enough to instill a sense of concentration to actuallyfinish anything I've started.

  • Agrument with Mom

I don't understand. With all the things available in this world (U.S., I guess). The wonderful opportunities that are available. The different cultures to see and experience (N.Y.C). Why are people still so selfish? Isn't sharing taught in kindergarten?

Why I'm venting on this:  Had one of my numerous arguments with my mom. Always about money. My mother's
brother's wife's father (my Aunt's father) died. My mother wants to go to Jamaica for the ceremonies. To give her regards and of course, to show off and digest enough info for gossip when she returns to her phone in the US (the phone that's usually plastered to her face from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Well, after she nags that she needs money to go. I offer to buy her ticket, (i) because it's the perfect opportunity for her to be away from me -- especially around my birth month; (ii) since I'm not obviously using my money for travel for the year, I might as well get rid of her; (iii) it'll ease off my light bill if she's not home running the a/c 24 hrs; (iv) I can shove it in her face that I bought her a plane ticket every time she comes begging for money; and (v) very legitimate excuse of not having any money -- especially for her x-mas present.

And yet, she keeps coming at me for money. Follows me to my room, while I'm napping, talks for about 20 minutes thinking I'm actually awake. I'm not awake until she goes on: "Are you listening to me?" Then I'm groggy and trying to cipher what the hell she wants now and it's shopping money for while she's down in Jamaica. WTF!! And, of course, my answer is: "I don't have any money" and I turn my head away and go to sleep. SHOPPING MONEY!! She doesn't need shopping money. She has black clothes, wear that!!

OMG!! I just wish I can ask her to go ask my brother. MY F-ING BROTHER that's like freakin' 11 yrs older (better paying job that he's had for like f-ing ever!) with a son, that he leaves with his baby's momma!! Why she doesn't ask him! I can't even bring him up. If I do, the conversation goes like this:

Money-Grubbing Mother: "Lend me some money, sweetie."
Broke-Ass Daughter: "Don't have it. Ask brother."
    MGM: "But I'm asking you."
BAD: "I don't have it. Why don't you ask brother."
    MGM: "Your brother isn't here."
BAD: "It's not like he's dead and gone. You have his number."
    MGM: "He doesn't live here."
BAD: "AND....!!  The minute he doesn't live here, you can't ask him for money!?! He's your son."
MGM: "Don't mention him when I'm talking to you!!"
    BAD: O_O *WTF!!* <-- thoughts.

    End of convo.

What?! Do I look a like a bank?! Do I have BOA or JPMC stamped on my forehead? *breathes* Ok. So I can't mention my brother around her when it comes to money. So when people ask me about "Oh, how's your brother?" I'd have to be like, "what brother?" and move on. You know, this is probably why I don't have any stock in this "blood is thicker than water" / family > friends. Because honestly, my family doesn't really give two shakes and I seem to be more attached to my friends. And that's probably why I'm very picky about friends and some friends probably get annoyed when I'm soooo clingy.

So I bought those stupid Jamaica tickets and now she's off to Jamaica this weekend for 10 days. But I got a two for one deal. My Dad is going to Jamaica too!! He bought his own ticket for him and his wife. So now I might hear some rip-roaring fights/arguments that probably went on between my mom and my step-mom. Oh, yea. I'm sending my parents off into a wonder tropical island of disputes and discomfort. While I'm going to the movies/dinner each day they are away so that I'm not home having to deal with ANY phone calls!! YESHU!! I take MY vacation seriously. <-- that's the extent of my selfishness.

and to conclude, looks like i'll be back to some more ranting and blogging since i'm not doing much gaming now. it's not like i'm over and done with, it's just that i just don't wanna get sucked into another rpg at the moment. (and can't stand installing new games on my lappy)

  • Vantage Point

Interesting movie. Another terrorist, kill the president sort movie. I found it interesting to watch. It held my attention enough.

Funny thing, some parent came into my Sunday job with a child and complained that the movies that we show in our shop was upsetting her child. (all the while the child's face was glued to the TV, not upset at all, but that doesn't say that it wasn't upsetting the child's sooooooouuuuul!!!)
