  • What to expect when taking the NYS Notary State Exam

What to expect when taking the NYS Notary State Exam!

    At 123 William Street:

When I took the 2 train and got off at Fulton Street (William St. exit), I saw a line of people for the Notary Exam. SHOW UP EARLY! There were a lot of people there. I showed up about 8:30 a.m., unexpectedly. They let you in the building at approximately 9:00 a.m. ~ish. Once in the building, you line up again for the elevator to the 19th floor.

    On the 19th Floor:

You're ushered from the elevator to find the exam room. They tell you that you're to line up along the chairs and you can't select where you want to sit.

    After being seated:

Take out UNEXPIRED state ID or passport. NO EXCEPTIONS. Someone came in with work ID and had to leave, no exam. They ask how you're going to pay? Check payments are to be made out to: The Department of State or DOS. Or they give you a Credit Card Form to fill. $15.00 is the fee.

Then you get the fingerprinting. It's non-stainable ink!! O_O' They fingerprint you on a document that you fill out with your address on it. You keep all these items (payment and address/fingerprint form) till the end of the exam. You keep all your belongings under your seat.

You are given a number 2 pencil. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO USE ANY OTHER PENCIL! NO PENS! You fill out your info on the answer sheet and then they send down the exam question booklet! DO NOT WRITE ON THE QUESTION BOOKLET!! ONLY THE ANSWER SHEET TO BE WRITTEN ON!

    During the exam:

You are allowed 1 hour. You get 40 multiple questions. ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED. You need a 70% to pass but you do not receive a numerical grade, only a pass or fail. The questions are pretty simple. I found a lot of questions were the same questions from the practice questions I studied from (provide link soon).

    Once finished the exam:

You can NOT just get up and leave. CAN NOT! You have to raise your hand and wait till a proctor signals you to leave. When you're signaled to go, take everything with you and prepare to leave when handing in your answer sheet and exam question booklet. DO NOT FORGET TO RETURN THE NUMBER 2 PENCIL GIVEN TO YOU!!

    After the exam:

Go have some bubble tea! ^_^ I finished the exam in less than an hour. The total process (line waiting and examination) was about 1 hr and perhaps 15 minutes. You won't know your test results until 10 days (2 weeks) later.

If you pass: <--- my assumption for now (8/1).

You'll receive notice that you passed and the Application that you must send to the Secretary of State with the application fee of $60.00. After you've received your commission card, then you can order your Notary Public stamp and create your Notary Public journal for all the notarizing you'd be doing.

    How'd I study:

I bought a NYS notary book to study from. But all I did was copy all the test questions and study from that! O_O' But since the book is a bit outdated, you'd have to study it with the updated NYS notary laws from the DOS. Links below are very helpful in studying the exam.

Good luck if you're going to go for it! ^_^

    ON A DIFFERENT NOTE:

    The Tanabata Story
Translated by Minobu from this Japanese website:
    http://japanese.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.tokyowithkids.com/entertainment/tanabata%5Fmyth.html

July 7th is TANABATA. There are a lot of stories about the origin of TANABATA. The most well-known story is as follows.

A long time ago, TEN-KOU, the god of the sky, had a daughter called
ORIHIME. Everyday she wove cloth for the Gods with a special machine
called TANAHATA. It is believed that the word TANABATA comes from the
name of this weaving machine, TANAHATA.

TEN-KOU was worried because his daughter worked every day and did
nothing but weave. So he introduced her to a guy on the other side of
the river named AMANOGAWA (to us it's the Milky Way). His name was
HIKOBOSHI or KENGYU. KENGYU took care of cows and was a workaholic. (I
am not sure why he has 2 names. But I think KENGYU means cow
care-taker, and HIKOBOSHI is his actual name.)

When they met each other, they fell in love immediately, and spent
all their time together. As a result, all the cows became sick and the
gods' clothes became worn out, but there was no new cloth to make more.

This made TEN-KOU very angry and he stopped ORIHIME from meeting
KENGYU anymore by taking her to the other side of AMANOGAWA. This made
the two lovers so sad that they couldn't work. TEN-KOU also felt sorry,
so he decided to let them meet each other once a year on July 7th if
    they worked hard.

Now, they work as hard as before and look forward to seeing each other only once a year.

Traditionally, people wished the sky would be clear on that day so
the two could meet over the Milky Way. If it rained that day, the water
level of the river AMANOGAWA got too high and could not be crossed.

People wished this by writing the wish on a piece of paper and
hanging the paper on a bamboo tree. Nowadays, people write their own
    wish on the paper.

This is the most well-known story of TANABATA, even though there
are many others.. It seems this story originally came from China.

In the Chinese Calender, there is almost always a half moon on July
7th and they believe ORIHIME and KENGYU use that half moon as a boat to
meet each other over the great river in the sky, AMANOGAWA.

  • Well, definitely feeling 'meh today. hopefully, expressing it will bring my mood up and i won't have my OM passing me by with comments like: "get over it, whatever it is and stop looking like you don't wanna be here." *sigh*

IMMA MESS!! When is someone gonna come clean my room. Isn't that what friends are for? Honestly, shouldn't I just make as much friends as possible so that I can have an army of room cleaning agents? *sigh* yes, I'm retarded. I am tired, my back aches (not enough sleep), I gained lbs, I feel stupid, imma freaking worry wart, i don't wanna be around people, yet, i wanna be around people (even more stupid) and *sigh* i broke freakin' three nails at that Anime Convention....

And speaking of which, you wanna see photos, don't you? My minions of advent followers who have nothing better to do but read my boring rant on how messed up and screwy my adolescent mind, encased in an old aged body, is. Did I forget to mention, I can't write, I can't spell, I don't know grammar, I'm a horrible retard that wants so much that knows that I will never get it?  AND DON'T COMMENT WITH GARBAGE THAT "EVERYONE IS LIKE THAT"!!!   THIS IS MY RANT! NOT ANYONE ELSE! BAKAAAAA!

Well, ok, fine. I'll provide you with some linkage: http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm15/deliccate/AnimeNext%2008/?albumview=slideshow

And you know what!? I'm cute! THAT'S RIGHT! FACE IT!

Another interesting tidbit... the book i'm currently reading: The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower). There's supposed to be a movie coming out with J.J. Abrams working on it. So Imma see if I can finish the series so that I, too, can say: "The book is better than the movie!"
